Paintings 2003 - 2006
I’ve always wanted to be a painter.
As young as I could remember, I would sit in bed late at night sketching my own made up super heroes, comic books characters,
and anything else that came from within my imagination.
Fast forward to 2001, I begun taking painting courses at night and started experimenting with different mediums on paper and soon after on canvas.
My first influences were Mark Rothko and Joan Mitchell.
I loved looking at Mark’s colour fields paintings and the serenity and spiritual feelings they drew from me. I had to paint like him no matter what I thought,
but wanted to add my own sense of serenity by creating land and sky scapes. Opposite to that, Joan Mitchell’s seemingly messy
abstract expressionist style was intriguing and a challenge to try and figure out.
The work here is the same serenity I want my audience to feel and the self discovery I had accumulated, working many years to achieve.
